The workshop typically runs all day from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM Pacific Time (plus homework) with an anticipated finish on Friday by 2:00 PM PT.

Vaccination requirement

As this is an in-person event being held at BCIT, we will be following the BCIT COVID-19 Safety Plan. The ISW Network’s COVID-19 policy requires participants to confirm they’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19 on the registration form.

Application process

Participants need to be confirmed by their Local Representative (LR) before submitting their application form (link below). Contact events@iswnetwork.ca if there is no ISW Local Representative at your institution.

Who should attend

The ISW Program provides new and experienced instructors with a laboratory approach for teaching improvement combining skills enhancement and personal renewal. The Facilitator Development Workshop (FDW) is designed primarily for individuals who will be conducting the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) at an institution. Individuals must have participated in an ISW prior to applying for the FDW. Depending on when you completed your ISW, there will be different types of preparatory work that we will ask you to complete prior to the FDW. Details will be provided when you register.

The FDW provides individuals with an opportunity for professional development in a challenging and supportive atmosphere and provides connections to a larger instructional development network.

What you will learn

ISW activities form the nucleus of the FDW. ISW participants refine teaching techniques through the lessons and, with guided practice and feedback, develop strategies for facilitating the group process central to the ISW method. As with the ISW, the FDW is a peer-based model providing participants with a small group setting in which to work on facilitation skills. In addition to small group work, each day the small groups meet together in plenary sessions featuring such themes as: diverse learners, collaborative learning, and feedback models.

Who are the trainers

Facilitators/Trainers in the ISW Network will serve as members of the training team. The number of small groups will depend on the number of registrants and the availability of ISW trainers. Early registration is requested so that we can confirm the training team.
